I’m ordering more, but I’m going to try a smaller waist and shorter length. It’s a lighter, more pliable denim, with 1% elastaine. Actually a nice Summer weight here in Southeast Texas. 1% seems about right. Some give but definitely not stretchy. Pre-washed. I’ve always bought and worn Shrink-to-Fit 501’s, exclusively. They don’t break. Ever.
I ordered 2” shorter for these, and the same waist size I normally buy, but with no shrinkage, and the benefit of the elastaine, I’m going to order a smaller waist and try even a shorter length.
I don’t wear boots as often now as I used to. True Indigo color and no fake fades on the thighs 👍🏻. I much prefer the button-fly of the 501, but I’m chasing a more comfortable fit for an aging body. These 505’s have been refreshing.

First time purchasing 505 jeans as a Red Tab member. So easy to use and the quality of the jeans is the quality that I have come to expect of Levi over the years. Not only that, they give you points that you can convert into vouchers to use to buy other Levi items.

Levi’s Ease 505 Denim Jeans: Functional, Flexible, and Forgiving

I’ve owned Levi’s jeans in various styles for over 40 years, and I love the brand overall. There have been a couple of clunkers along the way (the beige corduroy still stands out), but overall you just can’t beat an iconic pair of Levi’s.
For this review I tried the Ease line. These jeans use a soft midweight denim with a subtle stretch (typically 99% cotton / 1% elastane). The fabric is flexible and forgiving without feeling overly synthetic, so I can stay active without feeling constrained. This is especially welcome because most jeans feel too tight in the inseam and crotch area. As an endowed male, the extra give and room in this specific area make a real difference in all-day comfort.
They arrive as a traditional classic pair with the quintessential Levi’s yellow stitching that defines the brand. At first look, they reminded me of late-1970s to early-1980s styling that’s once again catching on. The 505 Regular Straight cut sits at the waist with room through the seat and thigh, then falls in a clean straight leg—versatile for most body types and easy to style with almost anything.
What I really appreciate is that I can work in the garage, stay active, and never feel encumbered. They look substantial but wear light. They’re rugged, well made, and designed to look and feel better over time, much like a favorite vintage pair. The fresh blue dye will fade naturally with use and after several washings, turning them into an easy weekend favorite.
These jeans are a great value and will undoubtedly last a very long time. If you want classic Levi’s style with modern comfort and just enough stretch for real-world movement, the Ease 505 Regular Straight is an easy recommendation.
