Shrinks Significantly When Washed

My wife bought this shirt for me and it fit great and looked great on the first wear out of the package. However, after washing it for the first time on the appropriate setting (cold water, delicate cycle, no drying), the shirt shrunk significantly.
Prior to washing, the shirt sat well below my butt and after washing, it barely came over my belt line. If I lifted my arms, you could see my stomach. If you plan to buy this shirt, I would size up if you don't want it to become significantly smaller upon washing.
