The Best Levi's Jean.

I've always liked the 505 jean. The rigid jean is one of the best. I had read some other reviews and decided to buy bigger since some reviews stated that there was shrinkage. The length was very long. I should have ordered a 30 in. inseean instead of 32 in. Still a great buy. Will have to wait to see if there is too much shrinkage.

Getting the real thing

It is getting difficult to find true levi's; I purchased a pair from a large department store chain, only to find that they had not the look feel or weight of the pants I have been wearing for the past 40 years. Only when I contacted levi's store and asked about this and then ordered the same Jeans from then did i find that the pants I had expected to buy are still available.

Runs large

Great jeans, but sizes run large - suggest getting 2 inches smaller waist. These are rigid and will take months to break in - don't wash them!

These are the real denim jeans of lore.

I don't shop much. I had been searching for some denim that is not stone washed. I had been to a few stores over the past year. Nothing seemed to be the original denim until I came to levis.com. These are the cool jean I remembered buying before pre-washed jeans became popular. Thank you for providing the real deal.

THE REAL DEAL

My question was answered when I ordered jeans from Levi's, they do still make Levi's jeans like they use to. The overall quality, material thickness, texture, stitching, and that awesome fit in all the right places are all still there. I had bought several pairs of jeans from my local hometown department stores prior to my purchase at Levi's however there was always something missing. They were just not the good quality jean I was looking for. That classic Levi fit and look we're not there. Thus I had come to believe that the "good old" Levi jean just didn't exist any longer. I am glad to say today, I am a believer again. These are the real deal and to date I have purchased 3 pair of the 505 Straight Fit Jeans from Levi's. Levi's offers so many color options and styles; I know without a doubt I will be placing more orders very soon. I highly recommend purchasing this awesome fitting, timeless jean from Levi's.

Excellent Denim

I hope you have the benefit of reading this review before you purchase these jeans. I am a self-styled denim expert. That means I have done ungodly amounts of research into denim history and culture and I own many pairs of collectible jeans. These jeans are not exactly "pre-shrunk" yet they are also not "shrink-to-fit." In the world of denim this is not unusual, however it may seem odd to those of you who have been wearing stone washed 505s or shrink-to-fit 501s your whole life. These jeans are sanforized. That means they are raw, as in "shrink-to-fit" but they are chemically treated to limit shrinkage. Shrink-to-fit jeans, that is completely raw denim that has not been washed or treated in any way, will typically shrink about 8%. That means if you purchase a pair of jeans with a waist size that is actually 32 inches (not tag size, but actual size) after washing in hot water and line drying (please don't put your denim in the dryer) you will have a pair of jeans that are now actually size 29.5. Once you wear them several times they will stretch up to an inch and now fit as a 30.5 or so. With sanforized raw denim, as I believe these 505s are, your jeans will shrink around 3%. This means a size 32 will be more like a size 31 after washing, then will stretch an inch and go back to true to size. This is all normal. In fact, it is a hallmark of an expertly crafted pair of jeans. That, along with the heavier weight of these jeans, makes them a must have for anyone who knows good denim when they see it.

Perfect heavy rigid straight jeans

I love these jeans. The rigid 15 oz denim is the kind of basic looking, heavy duty denim that's hard to find now. They are somewhat bigger than the tagged size to accommodate for shrinkage since they are water<less, so I ordered my regular size, and was glad I didn't size up. I would definitely wear them as much as possible before washing them.

Best of the old school jeans.

I love the way these jeans fit. There's enough room to move but they are not baggy. They have the Deep blue of the original jeans that fade over time, not the faux of the stone wash.

505 does you right.

Fits like a 514 only better. I have the newer styles of Levi's like the 513's and 514's, but I find the zippers on those fits to be unusably small. You have to undo the button at the top just to wiz. Seriously the newer zippers are too small. Bottom line is, these are the best fit Levi's has and they have been that way for like 30 years.... You can't go wrong with a classic fit.

Haven't actually worn these yet because they really are the old school rigid jeans that need a run through the washing machine to break in. But a quick try-on fit perfectly, and I like the look.

NOT the original 505's ! Why the changes ?

I bought my 1st pair of Levi's in 1953 and have worn only Levi's since. I switched to 505's because I liked the zipper. They are the only pants I wear; period ! Just bought 2 new pair of 505 regular, rigid. Listed below are the changes I do not like. 1. Only 5 belt loops (for 63 years there were 7) 2. The front pockets are not as deep. 3. Somehow the legs are not the same ? I have always ironed a crease in the legs by folding the leg with the seams together, and ironing them. Did this to my new ones, put them on and the crease is NOT straight down the front of your leg. Very unhappy that you say they are the same as 1967, because they are NOT.

Fits well, but you may want to get one leg size smaller than usual..

I wanted to try the heavy weight denim and I definitely like the shape and mold of heavy weight more than the thinner jeans. They are pretty tight and annoying when you first take them outta the wash but they readjust pretty quick. I also have larger legs and these make them not look overly big. So if you're a little self conscious about that these are pretty good pants. On the flip side, they are for some reason, a different length than my thinner 505's. So I got a size smaller in leg length and it worked out perfectly, actually.

Nice color, very sturdy, shrink *some* but not a *lot*

Some of the reviews for 505 Rigid were a bit contrary to my experience so I've decided to chime in. First, the good stuff: this is a very heavyweight denim, and it is literally "rigid." The color of a new pair is nice and dark, even darker than it appears on the screen. One of the reasons I wanted this pair is that I like durable products and since these have not been chemically treated, they should last much longer than the typical broken-in-from-new types. They certainly feel like they should. As much as I like the color, I'm hopeful that it doesn't fade too rapidly. It seems many people buy "raw" denim jeans because they like the way it fades and develops lines over time, but I'd rather these just stay nice and dark. One of the miracles of dark denim is that it hides dirt and stains better than just about any other material, so I want them to stay this way. Time will tell, but I have doubts. Now for the fit. Some reviewers claim these are "huge" for the tagged size so you should buy a size smaller than usual. Others claim that these are "raw" or "shrink-to-fit," you should buy your usual size, soak them to shrink them, wear them wet, etc., etc. According to Levi, these are "sanforized" (pre-shrunk) but otherwise untreated, but they also state on the tag that home laundering may cause some shrinkage. I decided to buy my usual size (31W 34L). I ordered four different jeans in the same size: these (505 in Rigid), 505's in Tumbled Rigid, 504's in Earnest, and 501's in Rinse. I measured inseam length on all of them. The 501's measured at a 33" inseam and fit like they were tailored for me, both length and waist, absolutely perfect. The 504's fit well in the waist but stretched a bit after a couple wears (they do have some elastic in them) to where I need a belt to keep them where I want them, and have a 33.75" inseam. A bit long but liveable. Besides, with the stretch, these are hands down the most comfortable jeans I've ever worn. The 505's in Tumbled Rigid have a 33.5" inseam, also a touch long, and are snug but not tight in the waist. I suspect these will loosen a bit in time. That brings us to 505 Rigid. As new, these were quite loose in the waist (but stayed up because they're so rigid), and had a whopping 35" inseam. WAY mucho long. Some reviewers had me convinced they'd shrink right up if I gave them a 30 min. warm water soak, so I gave it a go. They did loose some significant length and now measure 33.625", but are only marginally less loose in the waist and through the leg. Maybe a proper machine wash and a trip through the dryer would have them even closer to the tagged size. I'm afraid they'll fade to much to try it, though. At any rate, my assessment is that these most certainly are *not* shrink-to-fit as some have claimed, although they do shrink some and wind up running a little large in the end, but not as much as some folks make it sound. If you like yours to fit a little snug then you could consider sizing down and avoiding hot water and dryers. If you don't mind them a bit more loose then buy your regular size and wash away. In the end, I'm pleased with the fit, finish, and material. If the color holds up they're a home run. If they fade quickly but prove durable, I'll still purchase again in the same size for work (woods work, not office work).

Regular Fit Is Back!!!

I am very pleased that LS&Co. has gone back to the old Regular Fit 505. The low rise Straight Fit version with larger leg opening is horrible in my opinion. Thank you, LS&Co., for listening to your customers and going back to the old Regular Fit 505! My 505 rigid observations... SIZE: 34X30 Measurements Before Washing Waist fit exactly as expected, just a tad lose. Front Rise-12.5"; Inseam-32"; Leg Opening-17"; Fit-plenty of room in seat and thighs. After taking the above measurements, I turned the garment inside out and soaked in hot water for an hour, then into the dryer on high. Repeated this process at least twice, then washed in cold water on regular cycle and dried on low heat. Be careful, wash water will turn dark blue with dye, so wash separately the first few times. Garment still maintains nice rich dark color after first wash though. Measurements After Above Process Waist fit perfectly after very slight shrinkage of maybe one half inch. Front Rise-12.5"; Inseam-30.3"; Leg Opening-16.5"; Fit-slimmed down just a touch, but still plenty of room in seat and thighs without being baggy... exactly as I expected! The cut of the new Regular Fit 505 is virtually indistinguishable from an old pair I have that is over 10 years old (made in USA). My perception of the denim however is that it is not quite as thick and tight as the old pair, and that is the only reason for my 4 star rating instead of 5. If I could, I would have rated 4.5 stars.

Great jeans, but with a few shortcomings

pros: * Very heavy denim, which means they will likely last long * Great indigo color, which will give classic fading if you avoid machine washing. * Comfortable feel, especially after wearing for a while cons: * Indigo dye can bleed through to other materials if moist, though not as much as expected. They can't be machine washed, since doing so would cause major dye loss. * Small amount of pilling throughout, especially with the white cotton under-weave. * White cotton gives the fabric a shiny look since it is mostly visible when looking directly at the fabric, which can be a bit tacky looking. This will probably go away as the indigo dye slowly migrates throughout the fabric. * Biggest issue is that the pants are oversized. This is expected since they haven't been washed due to their minimal processing. I soaked them in lukewarm water for ~20 min. This had done a fair job in shrinking the jeans, but they are still a size too big in length and waste. That should just about cover everything. If you are interested in a timeless pair of jeans for a very reasonable cost, these are perfect. They are likely to last a good amount of time, and will have that personal touch as they conform and fade to the wearer.

RIGID RULES

Awesome jeans...love the Rigid/ Raw look....especially once the "whisking" starts.....the waist was a bit big...I've been wearing 36 for years and these fit like a 38.....I had these tailored to fit more like a 511 slim fit....most cost effective way to get rigid Levis w/ fit I prefer....I'll likely buy 3-4 more pairs of these once the size I want is in stock....wish Levis made an affordable 511 Rigid/Raw jean..I'd buy even more of those....I'm a Levis addict...thats really the cut I love...oh well...thank God I can even get these though

These jeans do fit big in the waist and long down the leg. I would also recomend sizing down if you deside to order these Rigid 505's. It's hard to know what size to order when you don't see the Rigid 505's in stores. I hope these Rigid 505's do stick around though, I just need to get the right size and I should be good to go.

All my 505 34x30's fit differently!

All my 34x30's fit differently! They are all in style 505, size 34x30, but different colors. This is very frustrating. I find myself returning jeans quite often for this reason. I have to try each pair on before I buy them cause even though it says they are the same size, it's not always true. I have a 505 33x30 that fits like a 505 34x30 and vise vera. However I do love Levi's quality in material. Just please get the sizing issue fixed! They are not a true size and are never consistent.

Good but apparently mislabeled

I went to a lot of trouble to find 505 "Regular Fit" jeans. With the straight fit I find myself walking on my pants cuff, and since I am not a teen ager I don't like that. The regular fit jeans I ordered came with an invoice stating regular fit but the jeans were labeled straight fit. I called to complain and was told they really were regular fit, just mislabeled. This turns out to be true. I like the 505 jeans but wish there were a more varied choice of colors, like tan, brown, olive, etc.
