About this Style

The Levi's® Vintage Clothing 1954 501® Jean was originally released as the "501® Z," and represents Levi's® expansion into new territory. In the mid-1950s, Levi's® started selling its trademark 501® Jeans on the East Coast. Up to this point, Western states had been the primary sales region since the jeans first came about in 1873, and there the garment had grown a loyal following. East Coasters, however, were largely unfamiliar with this button fly work pant.

To make it more approachable for new wearers, Levi's® introduced a new version. They took the original 501® Shrink-to-Fit™ Jean, replaced the classic button fly with a zipper, and named it the "501® Z." It retained all the other details loved by longtime wearers: the famed silhouette, rivets and tough-but-flexible denim. Retailers began providing customers with both options—the 501® Jean and its zippered brother, the 501® Z.

Today Levi's® has recreated the latter, to help tell their story of the 501® and its evolution through the decades. This jean is made with selvedge denim from Cone® Mills of North Carolina—a Levi's® brand partner for over 100 years.

Not bad

I ordered this one from Levi.com along with the 1967 505. I decided to send this one back because I didn't like the design stitching on the back pockets being a lighter color. Both had a nice dark denim color and zippers.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Superb Denim..

.. as used in the '55. Waist sizing is inconsistent with different leg lengths; for example a size W34xL32 measured (across the waistbands aligned straight)17" whereas a W34xL34 it's 17.5". The rear rise is quite long and adds to the overall length so you may want a shorter leg.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Nice product but

This jean is tappered at the waist, but regular otherwise, not at all like on the pictures. Nice tissue and well made product but because of the cut the legs feel a bit too long for me, or the waist has to be worn very high.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Vintage 501s

Forty years of 501s, in fact still wear a pair from college. Purchased some "Vintage" line , to stock up on selvage, but surprised to see the stitching on the back pocket unraveling after a single wash. At that price, this is unacceptable.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Why the junky zipper?

I thought these jeans were supposed to have a high-quality Talon zipper, but, the zipper does not have the Talon name on it and it does look and feel junky, which is unfortunate considering the likelihood of failure.

No, I do not recommend this product.

What happened to the real Talon zipper??!

The zipper currently used is absolute garbage compared to the original. Mine broke the first day I owned the jeans. Return was easy? But of course they were out of my size, so no exchange. Maybe a blessing.

Jeans get fuzzies after first wash

i have been fans of Levis STF jeans, and my previous 2 pair of American made STF jeans was excellent. This is my first big "E" jeans and it turn out to be very disappointed experience. After first wash, fuzz was all over and i think i can't wear it anymore. I contacted cust service and need to sent the jeans back to USA whereas I am staying in Asia.
