I like the 31-34" for myself, I find it very hard to find jeans with my narrow hips/slim waist but athletic thunder thighs. So by sizing up in the waist and wearing a belt I can get the length (34" cuffed) and a reasonable but stylish leg width. I tried the "athletic" 541 and didn't like the proportions.

Was tired of all the other brands not lasting as long, so I ordered some Levi's and I won't ever buy anything else. They fit great, feel high quality and they serve just fine with the more rugged activities while looking great on a casual day out.
