1942 501® Original Men's Jeans
About this Style
Levi’s® Vintage Clothing reproduces the fits, fabrics and details of bygone eras. Our source material is our own archive, and our inspiration is the hardworking men and women that the Levi’s® Brand has equipped for the last 150 years. Through our seasonal collections, iconic reissues and special editions, we relive our treasured history and offer timeless products to discerning connoisseurs that are as obsessed with it as we are.
This transitional model of our 501® jeans represents a brief (but pivotal) moment in this fit’s evolution. It carries hallmark details from earlier 501® fits, including the era-defining
cinch-back buckle, but in many ways, it captures the world on the verge of transformation.
Produced for only a short period during the early 1940s, this rare pair marks a moment before World War II, which brought government mandates that reshaped the construction of the 501® fit forever. It was made with heavier-weight denim for the first
time and bridged the gap between workwear-oriented designs and the more casual jeans this style would soon become. This stitch-for-stitch reproduction is constructed with heavyweight denim and features a yoke sewn on top of the main body, belt loops and an adjustable cinch back
