Terms and conditions
The Project
Queer Britain is an UK-based charity organization working to make history by creating the UK’s first national LGBTQ+ museum and, in doing so, aims to grow Britain’s understanding of LGBTQ+ narratives and experiences. Queer Britain has decided to work with Levi’s® company (Levi’s®) and Post Office Ltd to launch this Open Letters Project (the “Project”). This Project aims to collect open letters and media content from individuals to record, study and preserve stories of the LGBTQ+ experience.
The letters can take any form and cover any subject, from personal experiences and stories of hope for the future, to how the recent pandemic has affected the LGBTQ+ community. They will go on to live in Queer Britain’s ever-growing archive, where they can be re-visited and re-told, contributing to a more inclusive and representative British history.
After the campaign, the letters will be shared with and studied by historians at Goldsmiths, University of London and Kent State University as part of a research project titled Queer Pandemic: Resilience in Times of Crisis. The study looks at how queer identities and communities have been shaped and strengthened by individual and community responses to COVID-19 and previous crises related to the health and safety of the LGBTQ+ community, including but not limited to HIV/AIDS, violence, criminalisation and restricted healthcare.
