Had 501s in the 80s and 90s and these remind me of those. The selvedge makes the outseam lay flat and fade in a nice way. Were quite stiff at first, but softened up quickly. Not the shrink to fit, but the length probably shrank 2" I'd say. Legs feel pretty wide with the straight fit. I might pick up a slim tapered pair as well since my legs are pretty narrow.
