Taqwa Bint Ali is an artistic director and consultant based in Paris. Her work is mainly focused on the plural representation of women. In deciding to work with Levi's®, it has been Taqwa’s wish to create pieces that would appeal to as many people as possible.
The purpose of this collection is to offer a capsule that highlights all forms of “femininity” by breaking off from its homogeneous, non-inclusive vision. It is a way of including the greatest number of people, and leaving it up to them to choose how much of their bodies they want to show.
All the pieces can be layered with each other to form different looks according to the style, taste and modesty of each individual, so that anyone can claim the collection for themselves.
For this project, Taqwa brought in Diemm for the capsule’s creation and design. Diemm are contributing their skill in menswear and Taqwa, the expertise and vision she has gained heading several projects labelled more feminine, for a gender-fluid result.
In their creative approach, Diemm favour craftsmanship and manufacturing skills. They make pieces inspired by streetwear and workwear, following a strict ethic by working in a short supply chain. This is why Levi's® challenge to work with offcuts and defective products was perfectly in tune with the values they have always championed. Indeed, Taqwa and Diemm have managed to reclaim the used and defective items from Levi's® Recycling Wall and sleeping inventory to breathe new life into denim and give it a fresh identity with couture and plural design.
