Sustainability is not a trend, it is a necessity. At Levi's® we not only want to contribute to change by giving a voice to our allies, but also to be an active part of it. For this reason, together with Back to Eco, the Spanish NGO specialized in the use of post-consumer denim, we launched the upcycling project that aims to raise awareness that circular fashion is possible by reducing environmental impact.
Back to Eco has been working in this regard for a long time and at Levi's® we have wanted to join forces with the organization, following the motto of our latest campaign “Buy Better, Wear Longer”. Because using clothing in a more sustainable manner is possible by buying higher quality products that last longer.
BETTER CLOTHES. BETTER CHOICES. BETTER PLANET.
Fashion production and consumption has reached unsustainable levels: between 2000 and 2020, global clothing consumption doubled. The way we use clothes has also worsened, nowadays a person consumes on average 17 times more clothes than in 2006. We also reuse our clothes 36% less than in 2002. That is why at Levi's® we want to raise awareness about the durability of good products, offering our consumers alternatives to recycle and reuse their garments.
BACK TO ECO
Back to Eco, the non-profit association with which we launched our first sustainability platform at the local level, is dedicated to promoting and developing sustainable fashion projects and specializes in post-consumer denim. Founded by the environmental activists Núria Nubiola and Montse Bayén with the desire to advance and contribute to the transition towards a circular economy, this association has created a unique workshop in which they work hand in hand with the Fundació Arrels, in which they give a second life to denim, designing new products made through the reuse and recycling of fibers. Practical, durable and sustainable products.
We want to change the way we understand fashion. We have to give our clothes infinite value to create a minimal impact on the environment.
SUPPORT LOCAL
We support local projects that want to help the planet through sustainable fashion. Back to Eco is a project that uses the circular strategy to help the planet and the people who live on it. That is why they work with local suppliers in Barcelona, Vic, Olot and Moià.
THE TEAM
A group of women representing multiculturalism and diversity are at the heart of the Back to Eco workshop. Together in the workshop they are responsible for repairing, recycling and reimagining post-consumer denim. Their objective? Change the world by reducing environmental impact.
BLUE IS THE NEW GREEN
Denim, when it is of good quality, is one of the most suitable fabrics for recycling and upcycling. For this reason, Back to Eco focuses on this fabric, making it go through a circularity process that lengthens its life and minimizes the environmental impact. From its workshop, and through a network of local suppliers, Back to Eco not only reimagines fashion garments, but also creates its own threads and fabrics made from post-consumer denim recycling. Because Blue is the new Green.
