LEVI'S® X DarDust

Levi’s® Music Project is coming back in 2021 to bring together young talents and music industry professionals. This year, girls and boys attending the masterclasses will meet some of the key figures of the music business. Paola Zukar, the lady of rap, will be discussing management and how to keep your nerve when your artists jump from underground to the top of the charts. Giovanni Valle, Thaurus publisher, will guide us into the complex and fascinating world of music licensing. With Bomba Dischi, we’ll finally discover how to turn raw talents into promises of the industry. We will also bring two of the LMP students to a recording session with Dardust, the man who has been churning out huge hits in recent years, and the photographer and songwriter Silvia Tofani, to produce an unreleased song that will hopefully aspire to a platinum record.

Levi’s® Music Project’s second edition brings students even closer to music industry professionals, with three masterclasses aimed at delving into different aspects of the music business and the opportunity for students to produce an original piece with Dardust, Italian discography’s King Midas.

The talents

Dardust

Dardust, multi-platinum selling pianist and composer, with 35 million streams to his credit. In 2019, he wrote and produced “Soldi” for Mahmood, winner of the Sanremo Music Festival. Among his collaborations Jovanotti, Ghali, Thegiornalisti, Emma Marrone, Fabri Fibra, Elodie, Sfera, Madame, Marracash and many more. This year, two young talents will be able to see the Maestro at work and collaborate with him in the production of an original record. Worldwide charts be ready, we are coming!

Silvia Tofani

Silvia Tofani is a photographer who grew up professionally in Milan and has collaborated with Vogue, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair and many more. She is one of the founders of the Cesuralab collective. Her artistic path has led her to experiment towards multiple directions, from art direction to music, until she became authoress and songwriter for Sugar Music. She has been mentoring students since the first Levi’s Music Project edition and this year she will be following their path, helping them once again developing their full talent.

Roy Raheem

A rapper with a punk attitude. Roy Raheem’s life and music are full of crossovers and contaminations between cultures, styles and genres. Alongside Tommy Kuti, FULA, Slim Gong and Yank, he’s a member of the Equipe54 collective, created out of the idea of providing a voice to a new generation of Italians through arts. In 2020, he participated to the Levi’s Music Project willing to compete with professionals and refine his techniques. This year, while he continues working on his first album, he will be attending LMP Italy’s second edition, which will bring him to the recording studio with Dardust to produce an original track.

Giada

Born in 1996, Giada grew up listening to blues, soul, R&B and above all with the cult of Beyoncé who, like a comet, has always been a part of her search for her own identity. In the past three years, she has been studying singing with the aim of overcoming shyness and unleashing the power of her voice before an audience. In 2020, she participated in the Levi’s Music Project, willing to absorb the right lessons to be able to free herself and find her own path. This year, together with Roy Raheem and Dardust, and with Beyoncé always in her heart, she will enter the studio to contribute to LMP2021 original track.

Paola Zukar

For more than twenty years, Paola Zukar has been gravitating in the Italian rap scene and has witnessed this genre growing alongside her career. She has assisted the careers of artists like as Fabri Fibra, Marracash or Madame which have become music titans also thanks to her help. We will take a deep look into the role of the manager and go through the history of those who managed to take steps in the right direction to build solid careers.

Giovanni Valle

Giovanni Valle is a pianist and composer who decided ten years ago to dedicate himself to music publishing. Thanks to Shablo's chance encounter, he has decided to abandon classical music to join the Thaurus team, one of the most significant realities in the Italian trap scene. We will explore with him an aspect that is rarely discussed, but that every musician should know. The bureaucratic side, related to rights, copyright, editions and royalties.

Bomba Dischi

Bomba Dischi is one of the most relevant independent labels born in the last years. The artists in its roster have been able to tear the underground wall and establish themselves in the mainstream arena. Alongside the label’s founders, we will discuss how to create a solid and recognizable imaginary for an artistic path, without losing your identity and above all your independence.

Kids’ Bios

Lahasna, 27

At thirteen, she was writing, singing, and recording her songs for fun. Since then, she has never stopped, putting herself 100% in it. She loves R&B and hip hop, but she likes to mix different genres, making something new out of them. Once she happened to go on stage and sing with Kurtis Blow, and she always remembers him with a big smile. She is ready to face other artists and to open up her musical vision even more.

Andrea Galati, 20

Andrea loves R&B, Pop, and Chris Brown is his icon. He works as a barber, and while he’s cutting hair he’s always singing in his mind, but when a client asks him to do it out loud, he never backs out. His dream is to open a Chris Brown concert. He hopes to put all of himself into the Levi’s ® Music Project.

Giada Sanfrancesco, 23

For Giada, music is a way to channel emotions. She sings at the top of her voice when no one is watching her, but she would like to overcome the awkwardness of doing so in front of many people. She has a powerful timbre, which is very reminiscent of the genres she is most fond of: Blues, Soul, R&B. She studies Journalism. She says Beyoncé is her religion.

Roy Raheem, 28

Growing up with hip hop and R&B, he approached metal and punk as a teenager but does not have any disdain for any genre. For example, he feels very close to the “way of life” of Grunge musicians because they could “transform the demons inside them into a form of aggregation.” Today, he writes songs, is part of a collective of afro-beat musicians, and social redemption is one of the themes he likes to deal with. He has released more than five singles and would like to make his very own album soon.

Sara Fantoni, 16

Born into a family where passion for music is everything, Sara has been living and breathing Italian songwriting. She is among the youngest and shyest of the class, but when it comes to singing, playing the piano or the guitar, you forget it. She writes many songs, and she likes stories a lot. Whether it’s for work or as a hobby, it doesn’t matter: she is sure that she will continue to sing and play throughout her life.

I Tordi, 22 and 24 years old

Adam and Giovanni started playing together as kids in different bands, and then they became a duo: i Tordi. They mix different genres, going from techno to post punk. They are existentialists, self-deprecating, and experimenters. All their music is self-produced. For them, the Levi’s ® Music Project is a way of making music their plan A, and there is no plan B.

Umasha Elpitiya, 28

She likes to associate musical pieces with periods of her life, and defines herself as a ‘musical melting pot.’ When she was younger, her parents would make her listen to Lucio Dalla; when she would visit her grandparents in Sri Lanka, they played the typical songs of Bollywood films, and with her aunt she would listen to sixties rock. Her boyfriend encouraged her to take singing lessons, after discovering that she composes songs as an amateur. She hopes that the Levi’s ® Music Project will help her get out of her comfort zone.

Riccardo and Carlo, 20 years old

Carlo (singer) and Riccardo (guitarist and producer) are keen to say that they are friends first, and then “musical collaborators.” In fact, they have just started working together and are trying to find a balance between the former’s passion for pop, and the latter’s for electronics. Currently, they have produced their first song and see the Levi’s® Music Project as an indispensable tool for identifying their musical identity.

Ludovica Petrachi, 19

The first time she performed, she passed out from anxiety on stage. To her, music is a continuous discovery of new cultures, traditions, genres, but also a loyal life partner accompanying her at any time. She is totally enraptured by artists like Missy Elliott, Thundercat, and Jorja Smith. She would like to learn to manage her emotions better.

Godot, 28

Giacomo, aka Godot, defines himself as “a person who writes songs.” He hopes that his lyrics, written to try to understand himself, can be therapeutic for others. He is very inspired by Italian songwriting: from Francesco De Gregori to Lucio Dalla, up to Lucio Corsi. He lived in Cambodia for two years, studied oriental philosophy and Asian archaeology, and is the artistic director of his theater company. In short, someone who keeps busy.

Sofia Spiridon, 15

She has as much a rebellious temperament as a great voice. She is full of energy, has a thousand passions, and a will to get involved. Her favourite genres are Pop, Hip Hop, and contemporary R&B. Among her favourite singers are Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Bruno Mars. She is the youngest of the group and believes that the older ones can teach her a lot.

ILL Greg, 22

For ILL Greg, creating music is “self-analyzing,” writing lyrics, keeping a diary that will remind him forever of the mood he was in going through different stages of life. As a child, his cousin directed him toward Italian rap, Fabri Fibra, Club Dogo; then, he went on to listen to American rap. He would like to learn more about musical theories and techniques, and meet new people with different ideas and inputs.
