About this Style

Our 501® jeans from 1933 featured updates, like belt loops, and traditional details, like the classic cinch and suspender buttons. Levi's® wearers at the time would cut off the cinch right at the rivet and removed the suspender buttons, choosing not to wear their Levi’s® jeans with suspenders, like the older generation. Some Levi’s® brand retailers even kept a big pair of scissors at the cash desk to cut the cinch off for their customers.

Our 1933 501® jeans also featured the redesigned “Guarantee Ticket” on the back pocket of the jeans. Levi Strauss & Co. had trademarked the name “Levi’s®” in 1927 because any pair of denim pants were being called “Levi’s®” no matter who made them. Instead of reading, “This is a pair of them”, as seen on the original ticket from 1892, the new ticket read “This Is A Pair Of Levi’s®”. Also under the leather patch was a small white cloth label printed with the blue eagle and the letters “NRA”. This was the National Recovery Act logo, which LS&Co. was allowed to use because the company abided by the labor rules of President Franklin Roosevelt’s National Recovery Administration during the Depression years of the 1930s.

Cool experience.

They are huge but soaked and dried the blazes out of them. Fit is great. 10oz denim is awesome. Weight is so comfy. The pants are really straight leg with generous cuffs. If you don’t want to wash or dry your jeans, I’d size down 2 sizes or so.

Denim Done Right

These jeans are the real deal. Fully made in Japan, the craftsmanship is next-level. The indigo color is stunning—deep, rich, and ready to fade into something uniquely yours. They fit like they’re built to last forever. Worth every penny.

high waisted jeans are rare

high waisted jeans are really difficult to come by so it's really nice to have these historical recreations. I love the cinch back. I actually use it since I sized up two sizes because I plan on washing these (experience has taught me to not underestimate how much shrink-to-fits shrink. you can wear jeans that are slightly too large but jeans that are tightly too small are a pain to stretch out again). it would be cool if these jeans were available with other kinds of denim; heavier denim, recycled denim, stretch denim, maybe a different colored selvedge line, I don't know, something fun, but in the 1933 cut with the cinch back and suspender buttons.

Last Chance for Suspender Buttons

I recently started wearing suspenders and wanted some Levi's with suspender buttons. I could simply take a pair of regular 501 STF and add my own buttons, which I would certainly do if Levi's offered their official suspender button kit on a permanent basis (Hint!). However, these 1933 models also have a cinch, crotch rivet and other historical details that make them more interesting. The 10 oz white line selvage denim is a little neppy and I suspect will be a good weight for summer wear. The fit is a little looser than the current 501 STF model. I went with my normal Levi's waist size. I am wearing them rigid for now, but will do a tub soak when summer sets in. These are my favorite jeans, and I hope Levi's continues to offer these and other years even if the LVC line is done.
