Cute but do I need ro cut the sewn in pleats?

This is a super cute high quality skirt. I’m larger in the bum area and so I knew a line would be most flattering however the pleats are sewn in and it does kind of bubble instead of an a line . I read that someone else cut the sews but is that what I’m supposed to do? I wanted to try it but also afraid to ruin it if I do that. Otherwise I may just have to return due to it just not flattering me

Grwta colour. The pleats are really flattering. It is short and the pleats are sew shut at the bottom, don't forgot to unpick them!
