About this Style
Back in 1937, we began covering the back pocket rivets in an attempt to address complaints of rivets scratching furniture. But those copper rivets were tougher than they looked, and after a few years of hard wear, would break through the denim and proceed onto furniture. Luckily for couches everywhere, by 1966, technology had caught up and the back pocket rivets were replaced with bar tacks. This small change maintained the jean’s notorious durability, while finally solving the decades-long furniture-scratching issue. This particular style of 501® jeans—with its bar tacks and a Big “E” Red Tab™—only existed from 1966 to 1971. Now, we're bringing it back with these 1966 501® Jeans—with unique features that make it stand out in our long, storied history.

Fantastic vintage quality

I’ve been looking for some classic selvedge denim for a long time. Always wished I could get a pair of jeans with a sturdy build quality that would hopefully last for years to come. Upon ordering these, I was pleased to find they are much tougher feeling than typical department store denim, while still being soft and comfortable with a great fit. The stitching is great. 5-star rated for sure. Just keep in mind there is no vanity sizing with these. They are as they say they are at the waist, and most modern jeans are sized very differently. So expect a waist measurement that is exactly as marked on them. I hope Levi’s continues to make their vintage jeans for their quality, and history.

These are recreations of the 66 era 501s they feature these imperfections the same way they did in 1966. They fit very comforable and feel like a premium japanese denim

Arcuate stitching on left pocket was crooked

I was really excited to buy these jeans; I've always wanted selvedge 501 and was finally ready to buy. When they arrived I noticed right away that the arcuate stitching on the left pocket was crooked. The denim feels great, but these small details matter when you're buying an expensive pair of jeans. Decided to return as I wouldn't want to wear these out as the crooked stitching gives them a strong knock-off vibe.

Poor quality control

Over the past year I’ve bought 3 pairs of the the ‘66 501. All 3 pair the seams on the outside leg are very off center and uneven. The most recent pair wrap to the front of the leg on one side. I’m not sure how hard it is to make sure the grain of the jean is straight during production but the jeans I’ve gotten look really bad because of this. I’ve spent almost a thousand dollars on jeans I don’t wear. Levi’s used to be a great brand this era is clearly past. If you want to buy a nice selvedge jean I’d find a smaller company that focuses on quality a little more. I’m not rich so this is really frustrating, I really wanted to have a nice pair of Levi’s.
Other than that the jeans are great.
