About this Style

An homage to the ultimate thrill-seekers of the '50s: bikers. The Levi’s® Vintage Clothing 1955 501® Jean has a distinct “anti-fit” (or, slightly looser cut that stands in opposition to slimmer and skinnier styles) in the seat, as well as slightly fuller cut around the leg and an overall boxier silhouette. This version of the 501® still retains some classic features of its 1947 predecessor: belt loops as the only method of waist adjustment, hidden copper rivets on the back pockets, and a zinc button fly.

We pay tribute to the epitome of American rebellion with these 1955 501® Original jeans—an archival reproduction of their jeans of choice, crafted in premium selvedge denim.

  • An archival reproduction of 1955 501® jeans
  • True to classic biker style, it features a loose, boxy "anti-fit" style
  • We worked with a Japanese artisan mill to painstakingly recreate 1950s Levi’s® selvedge denim

Expensive but worth it.

Fit is just right. I ordered two sizes up from my normal size. It may shrink a little. But jeans are comfortable right out the box. Reminds of how Levi’s used to feel and look when they were made in USA. This is about my fourth pair of Levi Vintage series, I get 4-5 years out of pair by following the instruction. Best advice: Do not wash after wear all the time! Must have been why all my jeans lasted a year at most back when I was younger and did not know better.

PERFECT

These are my favorite style of 501. Very roomy without looking too baggy. Better than the original, better than the 1966... These are the best.

The Most Gorgeous Pair of Jeans I've Ever Owned

This is the most gorgeous pair of jeans I've ever owned. I had to work up the courage just to take the tags off. The fit is great, the indigo gorgeous, and the construction strong. Putting them on made me feel like a 1950s rebel. I wish I could afford a pair just to display.

Awesome. Beware.

These shrink dramatically after a cold rinse. Like, 3+ sizes in the waist. Way more so than other raw/ unwashed denim I've worn. They look amazing though. Will be ordering again I guess.

Vintage Style

I ordered this pair in a size 31x34 and typically wear a size 31x32 in 501s IF not wearing boots. For reference, I'm 5'11" and weight 175 lbs and several pairs of Levi's in 31x32 and some in 30x32. 31 waist usually gives some room although I prefer a snug fit in the waist so that I don't have to wear a belt unless I choose to. For this model, the 31 waist is more snug to the point of tight and I think a 32 may have been a better fit, while in all other Levi's models I've worn, a 32 waist is too big. My hope is that these will stretch out a bit. The denim feels quite rigid and workmanship appears to be excellent. This pair was made in Japan. While tight in the waist, the hips and legs are roomy and the leg opening is 'wide' - not tapered.

Too short!

I washed my new pair of 34"x34"s (bought in 2024) in cold water and air dried. The inseam length is now 30". A couple of inches too short for my liking. Same with a pair of vintage 1954 501s. I didn't expect this much shrinkage as I have some similar vintage 34"x34" 501s and the inseam on them is around 32". The recent purchases are also tighter in the waist then my old pairs.

Miss the old fit

I once upon a time only wore Levi 501’s I’m in my late 20’s and really hate the way the back pockets are stitched on. The fit of the old shrink to fits is really superb, and looking at woman’s you’ve left the pockets alone on theirs but butchered the men’s. It looks like you have a loaded diaper and it’s really disappointing as it’s getting hard to get vintage pairs with higher stitched pockets. Please release a shrink to fit with higher stitched rear pockets. I miss the classic “James Dean” rear fit.
