WOMEN’S WEAR TO WORK LOOKS

Inside her Los Angeles studio, Salem Mitchell—founder of puzzle brand Salem Goods—moves through a creative workday that shifts from photoshoots to meetings to quiet studio time. Her approach to dressing reflects that rhythm: versatile denim, easy layers and pieces that feel effortless but intentional. Here, Salem shares a week’s worth of looks.

WHAT TO WEAR FOR THE DAILY COMMUTE

white tee and great jeans is always a reliable starting point. Add a quilted liner jacket for warmth and subtle texture—a layer that pulls everything together. Bonus: Lightweight outerwear is key for mornings that start cool and warm up fast.

How would you describe your style?

I’d describe my style as cheeky, comfortable and diverse. Day-to-day, I keep it pretty simple: good jeans and simple tops with good cuts, but when it comes to dinners, events, parties, girls' nights, etc. I love having more fun with brighter, sexier pieces and fun shoes, especially boots.

What are your go-to pieces?

Baggy jeans, T-shirts, tanks, slouchy tops, bamboo earrings, nameplate necklace, simple sneakers, black heels.

One Levi’s™ item you’ve had the longest / or you can’t live without:

My vintage 501® jeans, I thrifted them yeaaaaaaars ago, and they always find their way into my weekly rotation. The more you live in them, the better.

Favorite Levi’s® denim fit (if you had to pick one):

My favorite Levi’s® are classic 501®’s, but I prefer a men's fit. I like my denim low and baggy.

How does your work style contrast with your weekend style?

My work style is more comfortable and closer-fitting since I do a lot more physical labor with boxes, packing and puzzling. On weekends, I’m probably wearing more skirts, dresses, shorts or the same sorts of jeans, but with a more fun top, fun belts and heels rather than sneakers.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find most of my inspiration from the world around me and my community. My friends and loved ones are all such dynamic, kind-hearted, driven people with great taste in fashion, music and books. Being around my friends makes me feel more empowered and inspired to try new things in all areas of my life, but especially when it comes to work.

What’s your ideal work outfit/uniform and why? My ideal work uniform is simple, comfortable jeans like the Levi’s® Low Loose fit, and a T-shirt. The average Salem Goods workday includes being on my computer for meetings/research, building boxes, packing orders and sometimes even doing puzzles. I need an outfit that works for whatever the day requires of me, whether that’s sitting at a desk or sitting on the floor piecing puzzles together.

MEN’S WEAR TO WORK LOOKS

At Danny D’s Mud Shop in East Hollywood, potter Danny Dooreck spends most days surrounded by clay, tools and community workshops. His style balances durability with ease—pieces that move with him throughout the day while still feeling put together.

I WORK MOST DAYS, SO I LIKE TO WEAR SOMETHING THAT'S EASY TO MOVE AROUND IN AND WASHES WELL, AS THE CLAY IS PRETTY RELENTLESS.

WHAT TO WEAR FOR A POTTERY WORKSHOP

We caught up with Danny after a day at the studio to get his thoughts on workwear, Levi’s® overalls and where he finds inspiration these days.

How would you describe your style?

My style balances functional, comfortable and properly fitted. I work most days, so I like to wear something that's easy to move around the store, and washes well as the clay is pretty relentless.

What are your go-to pieces?

A nice pair of Levi’s® overalls is always great for me. It’s easy to wear over all my normal day clothes, and if I'm in a rush to get dinner after work, I can just take them off and have clean pants.

One Levi’s® item you’ve had the longest or you can’t live without:

I’ve had a few different button-ups that have lasted me forever in the shop. I usually shop oversized because it’s comfortable, but it also acts like a ‘smock’ in the store. I wear them a few times a week, easily.

Favorite Levi’s® denim fit (if you had to pick one):

I love wide-legged pants, so some of the 568™ jeans, or the Blue Tab™ wide-leg pants work with my proportions really well. I'm 6 '4, so something not too fitted is my preference.

How does your work style contrast with your weekend style?

To be honest, it doesn’t. On the weekends I work, so I try my best to make the outfits I wear at the shop as flexible as possible for any type of occasion. I also have never minded a little clay on my clothes, it gives some character.

Where do you find inspiration?

Western Americana art has a huge role in our work day-to-day. I collect old art books of all varieties, and any chance I have to go on a road trip and explore some vintage shops, this is where we have opportunities to really study.

What’s your ideal work outfit/uniform and why?

Wide-legged pants, loafers and a naturally cropped button-down shirt. Really versatile, and able to be beat up in the store.

The best work wardrobes are built on pieces that can handle a full day—denim that wears in well, jackets that add shape and staples that layer without much thought.

Whether the day starts in the studio, the office or somewhere in-between, the right rotation makes getting dressed one less thing to worry about.
