For Sami Miró, eco-consciousness and fashion go hand and hand. It’s a philosophy that has made her brand, Sami Miro Vintage, both highly coveted and deeply respected. Her blend of unique, elevated designs and commitment to reuse inspired the partnership with the Levi’s® brand for the new Levi’s® by Sami Miro Vintage collection.
It’s a full circle moment for me and my brand,” says Sami. “My very first designs for Sami Miro Vintage were up-cycled garments reworked from vintage Levi’s® and those styles continue to be a through line of the brand.
Because the theme of upcycling is present in all the garments of the collaboration, circles feature as a visual component as well, in the form of cutouts and functional pockets made from leftover production scraps. The six pieces include two new versions of Miró’s ever-so-popular Sami Miro Vintage Porterhouse Jeans, the ultra-cropped Circle Trucker Jacket, a strappy Circle Top, and the fashion-forward, statement Circle Trench Coat.
For Sami, much of her design inspiration comes through the process of construction. Take the Circle Trench Coat: The idea came to her when she saw the scraps left over from cutting the cropped Trucker. She could see, like a calculus formula in her head, that if she moved those pieces around and put them back together in a different way, she could create another show-stopping design. It’s this melding of creativity and commitment to using existing resources that makes her one of the most popular young designers in fashion.
“Of all the denim brands, Levi’s® has the most beautiful wear and tear.” Says Sami Miró. “It’s impossible to emulate from new. That’s what I find so beautiful about vintage in general, not only is each item the only one in the world in its exact condition, but there’s also a story behind every piece and its journey. There’s a living, breathing life within these garments they have lived.”
