How To Wear Hawaiian Prints

June 26, 2018

Short sleeves. Island-inspired prints. A pattern-matched chest pocket. Hawaiians call these bold button-ups Aloha Shirts — better known to mainlanders as Hawaiian Shirts. Brought stateside in the 1940s, Hawaiian Shirts quickly came to embody the island state’s casual “aloha” vibe and have been a summer staple ever since.

Check out a few of our favorite Hawaiian shirts and how we’re wearing this island-inspired print this summer.

Levi’s® Vintage Clothing

Our Levi’s® Vintage Clothing Collection faithfully captures the spirit and heritage of American trends through reproductions of the fits, fabrics and details of bygone eras. Our 1940’s Hawaiian Shirt was inspired by youthful ‘40s style and cut in a boxy silhouette for a laid-back look. The beach prints and mother of pearl buttons reflect one of our main seasonal inspirations: the California “Surf Riders.”

Classic Levi’s®

Our Short-Sleeve Classic One Pocket Shirt has a more modern curved-shirttail hem and comes in two tropical prints. Leave the front unbuttoned for a more current look and give a nod to the Aloha era with our 1937 501® Jeans.

Sunset Style

Based on a 1902 version of a shirt by the same name, our Short-Sleeve Sunset One-Pocket Shirt is darker in color, making it easy to take from day to night. Keep it sharp with a pair of black bottoms and accessories like our Levi’s® 541 Athletic Fit Jeans and Ribbed Beanie.

Laid-Back Linen

Made from a linen blend, and featuring an easy fit and a straight hem, our Short-Sleeve Hawaiian Shirt is super breathable and captures the boxy look that was made popular by the original Aloha Shirt. Combined with a light-wash pant like our 511 Slim-Fit Warp Stretch Jeans, this is the ultimate chilled-out look for summer.
