Certified “it” girl Emma Chamberlain knows a thing or two about putting together an outfit. That’s clear to anyone who’s seen her on the cover of Cosmo, Allure, or Harpers Bazaar in the days since her rise to fame as a YouTube personality. Not one to turn down an opportunity when we see one, we asked Emma to apply her style expertise to the debut of our newest denim fit, the Baggy Dad Jean. Inspired by the slouchy, oversized styles you’d find in your dad’s closet–this new look fully embraces the laidback ’90s vibes that naturally mesh with Emma's personal aesthetic. Check out the three head-to-toe looks Emma put together for us, watch her styling video and read our exclusive interview with her below.

TELL US WHAT YOU'VE BEEN UP TO?

I’ve been traveling for decent chunks of time over the past few months. I spent some time in Spain and the South of France a few months ago, and I’m going back to Europe again in a week or two. In between trips I have been spending a lot of time working at home in LA and trying to relax my mind as much as possible. I just moved into a new home in LA, so I’ve been organizing every nook and cranny...which has been a very satisfying and (sometimes) relaxing project.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE IN 3 WORDS?

A little bit of everything... (sorry, that’s 5 words)

WHAT TYPES OF LOOKS MAKE YOU FEEL THE MOST YOURSELF?

I feel the most confident when my clothes are comfortable. I could be wearing jeans and a tank top or a gown, and as long as I’m comfortable, I’m happy. Comfort is my #1 priority when it comes to clothing. I don’t want to be distracted from living in the moment because my clothing is too tight, or too loose, or ill fitted. I tend to feel most myself in a simple outfit, like jeans and a tank top, but I also adore experimenting with new pieces. I’m all over the place.

BAGGY FITS ARE VERY ON TREND. WHAT MAKES THAT STYLE UNIQUE IN YOUR EYES?

I love how flattering, yet comfortable baggy fits are. They allow the space to move freely while still looking cool. I absolutely love a baggy fit.

WALK US THROUGH SOME OF THE LOOKS YOU STYLED.

The first outfit was inspired by the classic Levi’s colors—the blue denim and the red logo. I paired the medium wash baggy dad jean with a denim top of the same wash, and a Levi’s logo cropped tee with red converse. It’s a classic and timeless look.

The second outfit is perfect for the end of summer and the beginning of fall. I paired the light wash Baggy Dad jeans with a pale yellow tank top (that I cropped slightly, 'cause I'm like that), a cream crewneck sweatshirt and some beige clogs. The outfit showcases my favorite summer colors, while allowing for layering with the addition of the crewneck. It’s the perfect outfit for an October beach day (if you live in California).

The last outfit is a perfect fall staple outfit. The medium wash, distressed Baggy Dad jean with the black loafers and belt has a very autumnal feel. The pop of deep red in the striped top showcases my love for rich fall colors. It’s a warm, comfortable outfit.

WHICH LOOK IS YOUR FAVORITE AND WHY?

I think my favorite was outfit #2. I am obsessed with the lightwash Baggy Dad jean. It is such a versatile and gorgeous shade of blue, and I already know I’m going to wear them all of the time. I live in California, and this outfit is perfect for California weather. The pastel color scheme is so soothing and cute, too.

DO YOU HAVE ANY GENERAL FASHION RULES OR GUIDANCE FOR THOSE WHO ARE STYLING LOOKS ON THEIR OWN?

Do your own thing. If you want to try something new, try it. Fashion is all about being true to yourself. Although we sometimes feel a pressure to conform when getting dressed in the morning, it’s so important to remember that there are no rules. As long as you feel comfortable and genuine in an outfit, it’s a great outfit.

WHEN YOU CREATE A LOOK, WHAT DO YOU START WITH?

I always start with one piece, and build from there. Sometimes it’s a pair of pants, sometimes it’s a pair of sunglasses and sometimes it’s something in between.

YOU'VE BEEN ON THE COVER OF COSMO, ALLURE, HARPER’S BAZAAR, AND MOST RECENTLY V MAGAZINE'S OCTOBER COVER GIRL - HOW HAS YOUR FASHION STYLE CHANGED SINCE YOU FIRST STARTED YOUR YOUTUBE VIDEOS IN 2017?

I think my largest realization has been that fashion is subjective. I used to stick to certain rules that I set for myself and I was hesitant to take risks. Now I will wear anything. As long as I like it, I’m comfortable, and I’m inspired by it, there isn’t anything I won’t wear. Setting myself free from the “fashion rules” I followed for so many years has been so incredible and inspiring.

WE ARE ALL AVID CHAMBERLAIN COFFEE FANS. WHY COFFEE? HOW HAS THAT SIDE OF THE BUSINESS BEEN COMPARED TO CONTENT CREATION AND FASHION?

I have always had a special love for coffee. I spent a lot of my younger years in cafes with my parents, and became a routine coffee drinker by age 15. It was a dream of mine to work in the coffee business in some way, and I am so incredibly grateful to get to work on Chamberlain Coffee everyday. Building a business uses the same part of my brain as creating content and picking out an outfit. It’s creating something that is unique and interesting, yet has substance.
