[__Duurzaamheid__](https://www.levi.com/NL/nl_NL/blog/category/sustainability) /  april 2023 Share  Ons R&D-lab is terug met een nieuw seizoen van frisse pasvormen en nieuwe innovaties waar je je goed bij voelt. Van doordachte inkoopmethoden en inspanningen voor het welzijn van onze werknemers tot onze missie voor meer circulariteit en recyclebaarheid, we vinden altijd nieuwe manieren om onze kleding te verbeteren – en dat gebeurt allemaal in ons [Levi's® Wellthread®](https://www.levi.com/NL/nl_NL/levi_collections_wellthread) onderzoeks- en ontwikkelingslaboratorium (ook wel droomlaboratorium genoemd). ### OVERGANGSKATOEN Aangezien katoen de basis is van bijna al onze producten, is het van cruciaal belang dat we betere manieren zoeken om ons te engageren met de gemeenschappen die dit gewas verbouwen en te kiezen voor teeltmethoden die beter zijn voor mens en planeet. Dit seizoen richten we ons op overgangskatoen om de schaalvergroting van verantwoord geteeld biologisch katoen te ondersteunen. Overgangskatoen is katoen dat op weg is om biologisch te worden, een proces dat ongeveer drie jaar duurt. Verantwoord geteeld biologisch katoen gebruikt doorgaans minder water dan conventioneel katoen en vermindert de negatieve milieueffecten van kunstmest, pesticiden en genetisch gemodificeerde zaden.  ## Wij vinden het belangrijk om deze productie tijdens de overgangsfase te ondersteunen om uiteindelijk de toegang tot biologisch katoen in de hele industrie te vergroten. – Una Murphy, Director Design, Global Innovation ### PIGMENT VAN HOUTAFVAL Onze hele collectie is ook gemaakt met verfstoffen op plantaardige basis, waardoor we minder afhankelijk zijn van fossiele brandstoffen. Dit seizoen introduceren we een innovatieve zwarte pigmentkleurstof gemaakt van houtafval – een directe vervanging voor inkt op basis van aardolie. Het proces zet houtafval om in rijke, hoogwaardige pigmenten voor prints.  ## RECYCLEBAARHEID EN CIRCULARITEIT We hebben de afgelopen jaren onderzoek gedaan naar circulair ontwerpen en onze WellThread® kledingstukken opnieuw afgesteld om te kunnen worden gerecycled en getransformeerd in gesloten kringloopsystemen. Elk onderdeel van de anatomie van een WellThread® kledingstuk – van de stof tot de iconische Levi's® Two Horse patch tot de rits – kan worden gerecycled. Door te ontwerpen voor recyclebaarheid met stijlen van één materiaal, houden we kledingstukken van de vuilnisbelt af en geven we ze een tweede of zelfs derde leven. Op die manier kan er, als de dag komt dat ze echt niet meer draagbaar zijn, iets geheel nieuws van worden gemaakt. \*Recyclebaar uitsluitend in gemeenschappen die over de geschikte faciliteiten daartoe beschikken.   ## “Ons uiteindelijke doel is om te leren wat mogelijk is en de impact van ons product te verminderen. Daarom kiest onze organisatie voor de unieke aanpak om samen met leveranciers en werknemers programma's te ontwikkelen en uit te voeren die aan hun behoeften voldoen. Eerst houden onze deelnemende toeleveranciers enquêtes onder de fabrieksarbeiders om uit de eerste hand te horen wat hen helpt zich meer betrokken, productiever en gezonder te voelen.
