een eerbetoon aan de betoverende wereld die is gecreëerd door de makers, de Japanse pionier Studio Ghibli. Hier vertelt het ontwerpteam van Levi's® over hun creatieve proces en hun inspiraties. ## LEVI'S®  EN STUDIO GHIBLI ZIJN ALLEBEI ERG GERICHT OP DETAILS EN ELK OP HUN EIGEN MANIER ICONISCH. – Levi's® ontwerpteam ### THE CRAFT "Levi's® heeft een lange geschiedenis en een zeer iconische look, daardoor onderscheiden we ons al meer dan 170 jaar. En vanaf het begin dat Studio Ghibli mede werd opgericht door regisseur Hayao Miyazaki, zijn ze ook stilistisch iconisch: als je een van hun films ziet, zie je direct dat het van Studio Ghibli is. In al het werk van Miyazaki is zijn aandacht voor details ongeëvenaard. Het vakmanschap is zichtbaar. En Levi's® heeft de lat voor tijdloosheid superhoog gelegd. Levi's® en Studio Ghibli zijn allebei op hun eigen manier erg op details gericht en iconisch. We hebben de collectie opgebouwd rond een aantal iconische kledingstukken van Levi's®, waaronder onze 501® '93 Jeans, die uitkwam rond de tijd dat \*Princess Mononoke* werd uitgebracht. Maar we hadden ook kledingstukken die zich leenden voor een Japanse stijl."  ## \*PRINSES MONONOKE* HEEFT HANDGESCHILDERDE ACHTERGRONDEN MET PRACHTIGE NATUURSCÈNES, EN DAAR VOELDEN WE ONS ECHT DOOR GEÏNSPIREERD. – Levi's® ontwerpteam ### HET LANDSCHAP IN "We hebben ook de prachtige, weelderige omgevingen gebruikt. \*Princess Mononoke* heeft handgeschilderde achtergronden met prachtige natuurscènes, en daar voelden we ons echt door geïnspireerd. We wilden daar in de kledingstukken de nadruk op leggen."    ## LICHTE DENIMDAG "Op onze licht indigo denim zijn de hoofdpersonen San en Ashitaka te zien op de zonovergoten dag. Voor onze San & Wolf Truckerjack en Ashitaka 501® '93 Jeans (of, voor warme dagen, de San & Moro 501® Shorts) gebruikten we de bos- en zonachtergrond uit de film en integreerden we het landschap met het denim. De luchtfoto is eigenlijk de lichtblauwe wassing van het denim, dus het is een mooie integratie van de kunst met ons denim." ## DONKERE DENIMNACHT "Er wordt veel gespeeld met het licht en donker van de film: bijvoorbeeld de Nightwalker, een bosgeest die alleen tevoorschijn komt tijdens de nacht, het ochtendgloren of de schemering. Op advies van het team van Ghibli konden we hun afbeelding gebruiken op onze donkere indigo kledingstukken: de Nightwalker Denim Kimono Jacket en de Kodama Denim Overall. Het donkere indigo creëert de sfeer waaruit dit personage tevoorschijn komt: de Nightwalker stijgt op in de nachtelijke hemel met alle kleine Kodama, of boomgeesten, in de boomtoppen die naar hen opkijken."   ## HET TEMPO VAN DE RELATIE TUSSEN HET DENIM EN DE GRAFISCHE T-SHIRTS KOMT OVEREEN MET HET TEMPO VAN DE FILM. – Levi's® ontwerpteam ### DE GRAFISCHE T-SHIRTS EN HOODIE "Hoewel onze benadering van de denim sfeervol was, gingen we voor de grafische T-shirts en de hoodie dichter bij de personages staan en gebruikten we de taal van de film om uiting te geven aan hun ideologieën, zoals met Ashitaka's woorden: "Zien met ogen die niet door haat worden overschaduwd". Deze kledingstukken zijn directer, meer op streetwear geïnspireerd dan de denim. Maar er is een ritmische wisselwerking tussen de twee. \*Princess Mononoke* heeft van die mooie, rustige momenten en dan is er ineens een hectische actie. Ons tempo van de relatie tussen de denim kledingstukken en onze grafische T-shirts en hoodies bootst het tempo van de film na."  ## SCHOONHEID ZIT IN DE KLEINE DINGEN "We wilden kleine momenten uit de film creëren die je elke dag met je mee kon nemen. Onze bandana - een klassiek Western-Amerikaans kledingstuk van Levi's® - is voorzien van het mystieke rode strijdmasker van San, dus het voelde als een huwelijk tussen die twee. Voor een head-to-toe look kan de Ancient Forest Bucket Hat gedragen worden met onze licht indigo denim hookup, maar je kunt hem natuurlijk ook met andere kledingstukken dragen. Een andere manier om \*Prinses Mononoke* letterlijk aan je zijde te hebben is door onze San & Ashitaka Tote te dragen, met San aan de ene kant en Ashitaka aan de andere. En onze twee muntzakjes, een met het masker van San en de andere met een gezicht van Kodama, kun je om je nek dragen of aan een riemlus of tas hangen."   ## WE HOPEN DAT MENSEN HET EEN BEETJE ZIEN ALS EEN LIEFDEVOLLE BRIEF VAN LEVI'S® EN STUDIO GHIBLI. – Levi's® ontwerpteam ## VAN ONS VOOR JOU "We hebben geprobeerd om momenten in de kleding te creëren die universeel toegankelijk zijn – die esthetisch werken, of je nu een toevallige toeschouwer bent of een superfan. We hopen dat mensen zien met hoeveel liefde en detail we aan deze collectie hebben gewerkt, hoe zorgvuldig we te werk zijn gegaan. De meeste fans van de films van Studio Ghibli – en misschien in het bijzonder van \*Princess Mononoke* – hebben een enorme waardering voor de kunstzinnigheid waarmee ze zijn gemaakt. We hopen dat mensen het zien als een liefdevolle brief van Levi's® en Studio Ghibli. We wilden de schoonheid van de film en de betekenis van de boodschap vastleggen.
