MOOI ### [__Campagnes en samenwerkingen__](https://www.levi.com/NL/nl_NL/blog/category/campaigns-and-collaborations) /  februari 2022 Share  Phillip Leyesa heeft iets met aangepaste kleding en vintage. Dit hebben we gemeen met de ontwerper, die in Brooklyn woont en op Instagram bekendstaat als @Philllllthy. Daarom zijn we gaan samenwerken met deze succesvolle kunstenaar die het bekendst is om zijn complexe maar toch coole unieke patchwork-designs en om de manier waarop hij het aanpassen van kleding tot een populaire kunstvorm weet te verheffen. Zijn bijzondere creaties zijn zeer draagbaar en van elke creatie is er maar één. Ze roepen nostalgische gevoelens op, maar zijn ook op de toekomst gericht. Omdat de 501® Original onze eerste creatie was, gaven we hem deze jeans om zich op uit te leven. Het resultaat? Een kunstig vernielde jeans die eruitziet alsof hij al jaren gebruikt is. Had je al ervaring in het werken met je handen en had je al eerder dingen helemaal zelf gemaakt? Toen ik klein was, wilde ik altijd de gereedschapsset van mijn opa hebben zodat ik mijn speelgoed uit elkaar kon halen en er nieuw speelgoed van kon maken. Een beetje zoals Sid in 'Toy Story' eigenlijk. Ik denk dat ik het daardoor altijd fijn heb gevonden om met mijn handen te werken en iets nieuws te maken van oud materiaal.   ## @Philllllthy's manier van werken 1\. Denk aan hoe het eindproduct eruit gaat zien 2. Maak je machine klaar 3. Haal voorzichtig naden los met een tornmesje 4. Knip oude stof in stukken 5. Strijk de stukken stof zodat ze goed plat zijn 6. Verniel je jeans met schuurpapier, een mes of een schaar (waar jij het liefst mee werkt) 7. Leg de oude stof onder de gaten die je hebt gemaakt 8. Speld de denim voorzichtig aan de oude stof vast 9. Naai de oude stof en de denim aan elkaar. Haal de spelden er daarna uit 10. Verbrand de hoeken om de stof oud te laten lijken 11. Naai de naden weer dicht 12. Draag je jeans met trots en laat hem aan iedereen zien ## Waarom is het zo belangrijk om kledingstukken te hebben die volledig uniek zijn? Het is belangrijk om een unieke stijl te hebben omdat dat je onderscheidt van de rest. Als je kleding draagt die je mooi vindt, kun je laten zien wie je bent zonder iets te zeggen. ## Jouw stijl heeft veel weg van vintage. Waarom vind je oud lijkende kledingstukken zo interessant? Ik draag graag vintage en versleten kledingstukken omdat ze karakter hebben en ik er een verhaal mee kan vertellen. Nieuwe kledingstukken en deadstock hebben dat niet. ### Waarom ben je met je handen gaan werken? En waarom word je hier zo gelukkig van? Toen ik klein was, zag ik mijn ooms en opa met hun handen werken, omdat het timmermannen en klusjesmannen waren. Ik was de hele tijd in hun buurt en dat inspireerde me. Als je iets met je handen hebt gemaakt, voel je je trots en word je blij van het product dat je hebt gemaakt. Dat gevoel van "ik heb dat helemaal zelf gemaakt met mijn eigen handen" krijg je nergens anders. Menselijke fouten kunnen het eindproduct extra mooi maken. Dat is met een machine niet zo.  ### Hoe was je eerste ervaring met de 501® Jeans? En hoe kwam je aan je eerste exemplaar? Ik kwam de iconische 501® STF voor het eerst tegen toen ik aan het browsen was op een sneakerforum. Voor wie het niet weet, 'STF' betekent 'shrink to fit' en dat leek me echt geweldig. Ik kon de jeans op dat moment eigenlijk niet betalen, maar ik moest ze gewoon hebben. Ik weet nog dat ik mijn bad met warm water vulde en erin ging zitten met de jeans aan omdat ik verwachtte dat de jeans me dan perfect zou passen. 'Shrink to fit' dus. Het voelde heel onprettig en raar om met natte jeans in een bad te zitten, maar ja, alles voor de wetenschap, toch?  ### Wat is er zo iconisch aan de Levi’s® 501® jeans? Wat maakt dit model zo tijdloos? Voor de meeste mensen staat denim gelijk aan Levi’s®. En dan vooral de 501®. De 501® heeft een hoge reputatie opgebouwd en zolang denim nog relevant is, is de 501® dat ook.  ### Zonder al je geheimen meteen weg te geven, wat was je manier van werken bij dit project? Ik heb er niet echt over nagedacht. Meestal kijk ik gewoon naar het kledingstuk waar ik aan werk en bedenk ik wat het eindresultaat zou kunnen zijn. De manier van werken en de uitvoering ontstaan terwijl ik aan het werk ben. Ik werk graag op deze manier omdat het project dan een hele andere kant op kan gaan en dat is prima, omdat ik in het begin toch al geen echt eindresultaat in mijn hoofd had.  ### Waarom is denim zo bijzonder om mee te werken? Ik werk graag met denim omdat je er zoveel mee kan en omdat het een tijdloze stof is. Er zijn zóveel soorten denim om mee te werken en daarom raak ik er nooit op uitgekeken.
