There are a few things to consider when choosing your jeans. One of these is the right length. Depending on your height and shape, this can have a big impact on your look. But how long should jeans be? In this article, we'll show you tips and tricks to find your ideal trouser length. ## Different fits for different body types Basically, of course, you can wear whatever you want. Depending on your style, your mood, or the effect you want your look to have, you can choose different fits. Here we'll give you a few tips if you're not quite sure where to start. ### Suitable styles for shorter people High-waisted jeans are a great option to elongate your legs and create a streamlined silhouette. They visually lengthen the leg and can give the appearance of added height. When it comes to width, slim-fit and straight-leg jeans are particularly flattering for shorter individuals. Flared or baggy fits can create a relaxed look, but for a sleeker style, slim or straight-leg jeans can help highlight your proportions and maintain a balanced silhouette.  ### Jeans in long sizes for taller people Many brands now offer jeans in long sizes. Because it is not always so easy to find a pair of jeans that fit and don't feel like they stop halfway down the calf. In fact, slim fit or straight leg jeans with a high waist are also ideal for taller people. They conjure up a particularly beautiful silhouette and also balance the proportions, which creates a harmonious overall impression. Depending on the outfit, however, jeans with a medium or even low waist are also a good choice.  ### There are a few things to consider when choosing your jeans. This includes, for example, the correct length. ## How to find the right length No matter which fit you choose, the right length is crucial for how your outfit looks. Whether normal length or shortened, we give you a brief overview of the different jeans lengths for women and men. ### How long should women's jeans be? If you wear jeans in a "normal" length, they should end below the ankle. Of course, you can  also roll up trouser legs that are a little too long. But if that's not your style, make sure that the hem doesn't compress, but rests loosely on the shoe. However, it should be said here that the compressed look can also be a cool casual look. To do this, deliberately choose jeans that are a little too long and let them form natural, loose folds at the hem. This works best with straight or loose fit jeans, because with these fits the leg is already cut loosely. For smaller women, this can have a shrinking effect, but as already said: you can basically wear whatever you want! Jeans in 7/8 length, like our Ribcage Straight Ankle Jeans or the 501® Crop Jeans, leave the ankle free. This length is a real all-rounder and suits pretty much every body size and shape. They are available in a tighter fit or as a flared culotte. Jeans with a shortened hem visually lengthen the leg and go with any shoe, from sandals to sneakers to heels.  ### The right length for men's jeans For men: With jeans and trousers of normal length, the hem should crease slightly on the shoe. Cropped jeans in 7/8 length also look cool on men and go with any style; whether in a baggy look with the Skateboarding 501® Crop Carpenter Jeans or classic like the 501® '93 Straight 7/8 Jeans. By the way, there is a tried and tested trick if you are not quite sure about a pair of jeans of normal length. To do this, adopt the "talk show man pose": sit on a chair and cross one leg over the other. If your trouser leg has now ridden up above your ankle, then the trousers are too short. Of course, this also works with other types of trousers, not just jeans.  ### DIY: Tailoring made easy Despite all the things you can pay attention to, sometimes the right pair of jeans are just too long. The fit is perfect, only the trouser leg drags on the floor. Of course, you can take the jeans to a tailor's shop - or Levi's® store with a tailor shop - that you trust. But why not do it yourself? In our article "How to shorten your Levi's 501® jeans" we already showed you how to do it. But of course the method also works with other models. Make sure that you don't cut off too much. If you're unsure, take a little less off first. It's best to wear shoes when measuring if you want to wear the jeans with certain footwear. And: The DIY session works even better with two people.
