Finally, it’s kind of hard to keep track of all these highly specialized fits and their corresponding numbers and letters. That’s why we tend to try and help people out with handy dandy fit guides–like this one–every now and then. Today, we’re talking chinos, the sophisticated everyday cousin of the workwear staple the khaki. Our chinos run the gamut between polished, sleek staple styles and styles that basically sweatpants in disguise. LEVI’S® XX CHINO STRAIGHT
Like all the other “XX” fits, the Levi’s® XX Chino Straight is ultra comfy with its regular fit through the seat and thigh and juuust a little bit of stretch. A straight leg keeps it classic while a hidden zip pocket carries through from this style to all other XX looks for a little bit of secret storage. Historically the “XX” designation referred to Levi’s® materials that were “Xtra strong”–and this and all our other Levi’s® XX styles are no exception–But “XX” was also a sign of top quality from Levi’s® and that customers could rely on this indicator for quality garments, What that means for you? These are basically the best chinos on the planet. Style them anyway you choose–they’re versatile enough to pair with anything thanks to a balance between their relaxed look and feel and their polished taper look.
Levi’s® XX CHINO 7" SHORTS IN TRIPPY CHECKS NAVY BLAZER
Ok, so you can probably tell by now that we love that this style can carry a pattern, and this one is no exception. And while we’re super into this modern check pattern on its own, we especially love that it comes in a tonal navy to tie back to our indigo denim roots. The overall effect is sophisticated cool which is true for every version of the Levi’s® XX Chino 7” Shorts. The “XX” in the name refers to our signature structured but stretchy fabrication that keeps this style ultra comfortable no matter what your day throws at you. This fit in any color or pattern, feels ultra casual thanks to a relaxed fit through the seat and thigh. Call us crazy, but we’d style this outfit with another pattern. We know, we know pattern mixing can be risky, but the key here is to choose an organic (read: not geometric) pattern in a complementary color, but on a different scale. So an oversized floral with colors that tie into the navy would be ideal.
Levi’s® XX CHINO EZ 8" CORDUROY SHORT IN FIELDS OF RYE
The solid-colored Levi’s® XX Chino EZ may not have a fun pattern like our two previous selects, but it does have a little something to make it stand out: Lightweight corduroy. This workwear-inspired fabric brings a utilitarian feel to these mid-length 8-inch shorts. “EZ” fit in this and every colorway and fabrication of this short is code for “these have an elastic waist” which along with their relaxed fit basically makes them an upscale version of sweats–perfect for WFH and versatile enough for whatever else you may need them for. Look your coolest while you stay comfy by pairing these shorts with something fun–whether that’s a graphic tee that really shows off your personality or an easy pattern shirt that keeps the laidback vibes going strong.
Levi’s® XX CHINO STANDARD IN SUNSET BLUE SHADY
Our first pair of full-length pants on the list, the Levi’s® XX Chino Standard is kind of like the long, solid-colored version of our two patterned picks from the beginning in a regular, straight fit. We pulled this style in a fun, summery blue that’s a little lighter than your typical menswear navy. A regular fit through the seat and thigh and our signature slightly stretchy construction keep this slightly tapered style super comfy throughout the day. We’re seeing these pants styled a couple of ways. First, let this unique color shine with a top in a neutral or complementary color, or go wild with a fun pattered resort shirt or graphic tee.
Levi’s® XX CHINO EZ TAPER IN HOT FUDGE SHADY
Our final look today is really just a pair of sweats dressed up as a pair of real pants. Like the Levi’s® XX EZ short we covered above, these pants are made with a hidden drawstring elastic waist and a relaxed fit through the seat and thigh. A slightly tapered leg adds a little bit of polish, while the deep chocolate color adds a touch of modernity. This season, we’re leaning into the academic look with these pants start with a button-down, add a piece of knitwear like a cardigan or a sweater vest, and maybe even throw on some glasses for that real authentic “professor” aesthetic. Plus, extended sizes mean everyone can get in on this style.
